Dodge Buys into "Sex Sells" Idea - 3 Dec 2003
|
...A report indicates the Dodge unit of DaimlerChrysler has become the latest corporation to by into the idea that you need sexual content to sell a product. According to a CNN report, Dodge will sponsor a pay-per-view "Lingerie Bowl" during halftime of the Super Bowl on February 1. The event will apparently feature models dressed in lingerie playing a seven-on-seven tackle football game. People who want to see the live event will have to pay $19.95. Former NFL stars Lawrence Taylor and Eric Dickerson will coach the teams. CNN notes that Dodge has received some criticism for other advertisements of questionable taste, including a Durango spot featuring two men have a conversation while standing at urinals in a bathroom. When asked about the possible complaints over the lingerie event, Dodge spokesman James Kenyan told CNN that the company sees it as a "break-through-the-clutter"-type move, and that it is not always possible to avoid criticism. Dodge is primarily a light truck manufacturer, but also produces the popular Caravan minivan. |
