Vermont Congress Candidate Says He'd be Terrified if Dean Became President - 1 Dec 2003

...A retired Air Force pilot who hopes to be Vermont's next congressman says he would be terrified if former Vermont Governor Howard Dean became president. Greg Parke wants to replace ultra-liberal Bernie Sanders as Vermont's only congressman -- and he wants to work with President George W. Bush; not Dean, who continues to be the favorite to win the Democratic presidential nomination. Parke describes Dean as "somewhat of a two-edged sword." He says in some respects, Dean's nomination "may be the best thing that ever happened to the Republican Party" -- but that the former governor's "double-speak" and self-contradictory remarks about when he would commit military troops leaves him "leery" about the prospects of Dean residing in the Oval Office. Parke says Dean reminds him of George McGovern, the 1972 Democratic presidential candidate who had an extreme left-wing foreign policy platform. |
