Gun Owners of America Stalls Bill Promoting Left-Wing Revisionist History in America's Schools - 26 Nov 2003

...A leading Second Amendment rights group has been successful in stalling a bill that gives huge amounts of money to promote left-wing, revisionist history in America's schools. The bill, sponsored by Congressman Roger Wicker of Mississippi, would throw $25 million at the left wing history establishment to run so-called "presidential academies." In other words, it funds the teaching of "politically correct," revisionist history in public schools. But Gun Owners of America (GOA) have succeeded in stalling the bill, mainly because members believe revisionist history thinking has tried to eliminate the Second Amendment and promote anti-gun sentiments. GOA's Larry Pratt says "When we took a look [at the bill], we realized that that it is going to require the teaching of standards that the federal government -- we think, unconstitutionally -- has been imposing on the nation's schools. Pratt added that those standards to teach history and civics that "completely gut the Second Amendment, they gut natural rights, the whole concept of 'limited government' and promote the idea -- quite literally -- of being a global citizen." The bill was also at one time co-sponsored by Congressman Tom Tancredo of Colorado, but he withdrew his support after Gun Owners of America voiced strong opposition. [Rusty Pugh] |
