Bush Must Get Judicial Nominees Approved - 26 Nov 2003

...A pro-family attorney says the recent decision by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court to approve same-sex marriage makes it imperative that President Bush gets his judicial nominees approved -- even if it takes recess appointments to do so. Steve Crampton, Chief Counsel for the American Family Association's Center for Law & Policy, says the Massachusetts decision to approve homosexual marriage illustrates the consequences of liberal Democrats being able to appoint their flavor of judges. Crampton points out, "Our side has been very slow to recognize [that] this is the whole ball game." He added that if the liberals get their judges in, it will not matter what the legislatures do because liberal judges will simply overrule legislated law -- just as the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court did. So, Crampton says, the president should seriously consider the option of making appointments during the upcoming Congressional recess. Crampton also offered the possible second option that the Republican majority in the Senate to pull back the rules on filibustering. Crampton believes if Bush goes the route of making appointments during congressional recess, people would see judges do what is right and boost the president's chances of overcoming the Democratic filibustering tactic.
