The American Sound Brought Back to Life by Conservative Congressmen - 24 Nov 2003

...The "behind closed doors" thinking of members of Congress is about to be opened to the world. A journal of thoughts and ideas, The American Sound, is being brought back to life by a group of conservative congressmen. Ohio Republican Representative John Boehner says The American Sound will provide a forum for members of Congress to voice their ideas on various issues. "I don't think, Boehner says, "there is any issue that is 'off the table.' What we will seek to do as we publish this quarterly, is to search out member's projects and ideas that they are working on that we think are worthy of being published." The conservative journal, which began during the Reagan Administration, has seen infrequent publication during the past decade. It is now available on line for anyone who wants to see how individual members of Congress think. Missouri Senator Jim Talent, says this effort is being undertaken because the GOP’s ideas have not been getting to the people. "I don’t think the ideas do get out well enough," Talent says, "--particularly ideas on this level. I'm not saying that's because of some failure in the press. I think in part, it is because we haven't done this as well as we should do it, and this journal is an attempt, in part, to remedy that." Talent added that all sorts of issues and ideas will be dealt with in the journal, which can be accessed on line. [Bill Fancher]
