Louis Farrakhan Should be Treated as Domestic Enemy - 21 Nov 2003

...A conservative African-American activist and author says Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan should be treated as a domestic enemy, especially in light of the recent conviction of one of his followers. Jesse Lee Peterson, founder of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny (BOND), is the author of a newly released book titled Scam: How the Black Leadership Exploits Black America. He says Minister Louis Farrakhan is one of the most dangerous of those leaders, a man who is "absolutely insane, a racist," and "an American Hitler." According to expert sources, Muslims make up an estimated 6% of the U.S. population, with the majority of conversions to this growing religion occurring within the African-American community. Whatever the reasons for the attractiveness of the Nation of Islam to American blacks, Peterson says the black community and the public in general need to be wary of the charismatic head of the Black Muslim movement. Peterson points out that one of Farrakhan's followers, John Muhammad, was recently convicted of capital murder in the Washington, DC, sniper attacks. BOND's founder claims the convicted DC sniper was formerly a bodyguard to Farrakhan and was among those guarding him at the Million Man March. But the conservative spokesman says this is only one example of how dangerous the adherents to Farrakhan's philosophies can be. "They may not be able to cause the type of destruction that we see with the radicals from the Middle East," Peterson says, "but they can definitely cause some damage, as we have seen with John Muhammad and his associates." In spite of Farrakhan's claims about himself, Peterson says the U.S. should regard him as a domestic enemy. |
