US Supreme Court Puts America in the Early Stages of a Constitutional Crisis - 20 Nov 2003

...One of America's leading constitutional scholars, Ambassador Alan Keyes, claims the U.S. is in the early stages of what could become a constitutional crisis. In a recent Supreme Court decision, Justice Anthony Kennedy cited European law in the majority view; and last week, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor said the court would begin considering European law more and more in future decisions. Keyes says these instances reflect dangerous attitudes. "What they are telling us is that now that they have become dictators, with everybody saying that what they say is law, they are going to start imposing on us laws that could never be passed by our legislatures and that would not pass muster under our Constitution," he says. According to the ambassador, if the high court starts using law not established in America for its decisions, it could render the U.S. Constitution a worthless piece of paper. "If we continue under this arrangement, we don't have a Constitution anymore," Keyes says. |
