Jessica Lynch Didn't Start the Hype - Should be Praised for Setting Record Straight - 19 Nov 2003

...Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness, says Army Private First Class Jessica Lynch and her family had nothing to do with all the hype surrounding her ordeal in Iraq, and the military analyst is praising the young soldier for setting the record straight at the first opportunity. Donnelly saw the recent interview of Lynch done by ABC's Diane Sawyer and says she is glad the former POW, who has refused to endorse untruthful statements made about her by others, is choosing not to go along with all the hype surrounding the circumstances of her capture, imprisonment, and eventual rescue in Iraq. Donnelly says she cannot help but admire the private's courage in not trying to live up to the legend that has grown up around her. "She could have gotten a lot of money from NBC in cooperating with the film that they aired on November 9th -- she decided not to do that," Donnelly says, and the military expert feels she has a good idea why Lynch opted out. "There is more to this story, but I think it's going to come out sooner than later," Donnelly hints, adding "To [Jessica Lynch's] credit she has been honest in what she herself has said." The military pundit says she faults the Washington Post for much of the hype around Lynch, along with whoever it was at the Department of Defense that started it by releasing the story. |
