Tax Payers in New Mexico Footing the Bill for Low Income Abortions - 18 Nov 2003
|
...Taxpayers in New Mexico are now footing the abortion bill for women who do not have medical insurance, a change of policy that comes compliments of the administration of Governor Bill Richardson. The new access to the abortion drug RU-486 is billed as "righting a wrong" by making the dangerous chemicals available to low-income women. But Joan Douglas of East Mountain Pregnancy Care Center near Albuquerque has a different view. "It doesn't make the pain and the grief that the mothers suffer go away. Just because it becomes easier for them to take it, doesn't mean that it's going to be the answer to all of their worries. It's just the beginning," she tells Family News In Focus. RU-486 has been identified as causing the painful death of a young California woman last September. [FNIF] |
