Vision America Starting Petition in Wake of Roy Moore Removal - 17 Nov 2003

...In the wake of the removal of Roy Moore as chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, a group that is staging Ten Commandments rallies across the United States is unveiling a new petition in defense of public display of the commandments and other religious symbols. Vision America president Rick Scarborough expressed both sorrow and determination over the ruling of the Alabama Court of the Judiciary that removed Judge Roy Moore from the bench. Scarborough says the chief justice was forced from the bench for "refusing to violate his oath of office by obeying the unconstitutional edict of a judicial autocrat." He contrasts Moore's ordeal with that of former U.S. president Bill Clinton. Vision America's president asks, "Who would have imagined that this nation would fall so low that a president who violated the commandments against adultery and bearing false witness would be maintained in office, but Alabama's chief justice would be ousted for honoring the Ten Commandments?" Scarborough called the court's action "a farce," but commented, "God always does his best work after a crucifixion. Roy Moore will be vindicated." At a Monday press conference featuring Scarborough and Ambassador Alan Keyes, Gary Bauer, and Jan LaRue, among other speakers, Vision America is announcing its "Save the Ten Commandments -- God's Contract With America" petition (restorethecommandments.com). The goals of the petition drive are to check the onslaught of secularism and judicial tyranny while restoring acknowledgement of America's Judeo-Christian heritage, and to support the confirmation of federal judges committed to the Constitution's original intent and to judicial restraint. Leaders who have agreed to be original signers include James Dobson, Pat Robertson, Sandy Rios (Concerned Women for America), Family Research Council president Tony Perkins, Rabbi Yehuda Levin, Dr. D. James Kennedy, and many others.
