New Iraq to Have Religious Freedom - 14 Nov 2003

...The recently approved $87 billion financial aid package for Iraq includes a mandate that the new constitution must include provisions for religious freedom. The Coalition Provisional Authority is under U.S. control, so directives passed in Congress become the law of the land in Iraq. To date, there has never been an Islamic country with true religious freedom. But Arizona Congressman Trent Franks tells Family News In Focus that it is the key to the war on terror. "Countries that have religious freedom do not have state-sponsored terrorism," the representative says. "Those countries that have state-sponsored terrorism do not have guaranteed religious freedom. It is a profoundly important thing for the future of this world." The provision passed without dissent from Congress. Franks says the reconstruction of Japan after World War II is being used as the model for this action.
