Hillary Will Likely Run on Bill Clintons Legacy in 2008 - 12 Nov 2003

...An author and magazine editor says the American people need to know the facts about the 1990s because Hillary Clinton is going to run for president based on her husband's legacy. Rich Lowry, editor of National Review, has recently released his book Legacy: Paying the Price for the Clinton Years. Lowry says since leaving office, Bill Clinton has been working overtime to distort the legacy of his failed presidency in order to help the former First Lady run for president. The journalist says Americans "should be very afraid" of Mrs. Clinton. "She is as smart as Bill Clinton, but she is more disciplined -- and in some ways that's going to make her a more formidable political figure," Lowry says. That is why the columnist maintains it is important to get the facts right about the 1990s. He admits "a lot of good things" happened during that decade, "but the Clintons had absolutely nothing to do with them." And what did President Clinton have an effect on during his two terms? "One, dragging the country through at impeachment crisis with his affair with Monica Lewinsky; and [two], kicking all the foreign policy problems on down the road for his successor to deal with," Lowry says. The journalist does not think Mrs. Clinton will jump into the 2004 presidential race, but will wait until 2008 -- when she would not have to face an incumbent president. |
